May 18, 2024 10:00 am - 11:00 am Veterans Memorial Hwy & Discovery Blvd - RSVP for directions The historic Turner-Sewell Cemetery was adopted by The River Line Historic Area under Cobb County's Adopt-A-Cemetery Program on October 21, 2011. Volunteers have been providing vegetation upkeep on a regular basis since then.
Help us create a native plant garden in this secluded location. Do you have native plants growing in your yard to share? If so, bring them along with the tools for transplanting and water to get them established. They will have a safe new home here! Need help identifying native plants? You can find them on The Georgia Native Plant Society page here: https://gnps.org/plants/

In 1851 Daniel R.Turner owned 740 acres along the Chattahoochee River in Cobb County and operated the Mayson-Turner ferry across the Chattahoochee at today's Veteran's Memorial Hwy. His first born son, John Turner, owned the house which stood at 5811 Oakdale Road, demolislhed February 2015 by the City of Smyrna. Daniel and John are both buried at the Turner-Sewell Cemetery along with other family members.

May 25, 2024 10:00 am - 11:00 am 5411 S Cobb Dr SE, Smyrna, GA 30080 The historic Hooper-McWilliams family cemetery was adopted by The River Line Historic Area on September 6, 2016. It is located next to the McDonough Georgia Power Plant near the Chattahoochee River on South Cobb Drive within the Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery.
We need a limited number of adult volunteers (16 years or older) to maintain this cemetery by replacing invasive vegetation with native plants. Do you have native plants growing in your yard to share? If so, bring them with a jug of water to get them established. They will have a safe new home here! Need help identifying native plants? You can find them on The Georgia Native Plant Society page here: https://gnps.org/plants/
If you can help, send a RSVP note to [email protected] and more details will be sent in return. Appropriate attire includes gloves, long pants, sturdy shoes, socks and hat. A long sleeve cover up shirt will protect arms from scratches and insects. Bring your water bottle to keep hydrated. If you have them, bring small hand pruners.
The pioneering Thomas Hooper family owned 531 acres along the Chattahoochee River in 1851.
